We are the champions!

Like father, like daughter… Cycle king Dave and Playball queen Tilly
We've been very busy covering ourselves in glory recently.
As you know, Dave entered the Lake Taupo Challenge recently, so he's been out on the bike doing lots of practice kilometers, mostly involving getting up at 5.30 or so (rather him than me…) and devouring many, many müsli bars for energy.  This weekend just gone, he entered the Auckland Bike the Bridge race to get some experience in riding in a big group.  This was a 115km and 6 müsli bar special that required getting up at 4.45 to reach the start line by Auckland harbour bridge.  Normally the only way over the bridge to Auckland's north shore is in a vehicle, but for a special occasion, the bridge was closed to traffic for the race.  Three cheers for Dave - he finished in 3 hours 18 minutes, ranked at no. 66 out of 545 male racers.  And he's particularly pleased because he was riding a $600 second hand bike and there were a lot of carbon fibre bikes around that cost more than our car, mostly ridden by overweight mamils (see here if you haven't come across one of these before!).  Here's Dave looking focussed as he approaches the finish line:

No shaved legs here!
Aside from this bike related action, the athletics season has just started and our fridge is now getting a fresh covering of winner's ribbons.  This year, Tilly is old enough to join in and she's been doing very well.  Here she is clutching her haul of ribbons from last week.  We were preparing to soothe Reuben's injured pride, but fortunately he was awarded Athlete of the Day and any woe was averted!
