Why we are currently not welcoming vampires

Do you know what 1 kilo of garlic looks like?

Now you do.  17 heads to be exact.

As to why we have 1 kilo of garlic - well, Reuben did go through a big vampire phase last year after going to a Hallowe'en party and drew nothing but vampires for a couple of months, but that seems to have worn off.  The real reason is internet shopping.

After Dave's paternity leave was over, I set out on a Monday morning with Tilly and Harriet to do the supermarket shop and take Tilly to her swimming lesson.  Was I being over-ambitious?  One go at getting round the shop, through the checkout and to swimming on time with a hungry baby howling convinced me I was.  Internet shopping instead then.  There's only one supermarket in NZ that does this, so we switched our loyalty from the annoyingly spelled Pak'nSave to Countdown.  For some reason, the Countdown website only allows customers to order fruit and vegetables by weight, but then provides a space for writing comments for the personal shopper.  So you leave the weight set at the default 1kg and then write '10 apples' next to it.

Only last week's shopper wasn't really into reading.  Or common sense either.  So they provided me with 1 kilo of garlic rather than the 1 head I was after and I got charged $22.99 for the privilege!

I emailed Countdown and they have refunded the money.  But I still have 16 more heads of garlic than I was planning on using.  HELP!  Please send me your intensely garlicky recipes urgently before it all starts to sprout!

  2. Yum indeed. But with 1kg of garlic I think I'd have enough garlic bread to feed an army!
