Hurrah hurrah, it's been birthday central here today. Dave and I celebrated by having lunch in one of the Sky Tower restaurants.
The food was lovely and the view was pretty amazing too! Just to give you an idea of how high up, here's a shot of Dave's feet standing on the glass floor of the level below where we were eating. Yep, those little white rectangles are cars and buses. I bought Dave a box made from rimu wood to put on his desk in his office and hold boring officey things along with some highly exclusive not at all made in China native artefacts (ok, a coaster, a kiwi keyring and a mug!), and he got me two sessions at the Auckland fish market cookery school. Yum!
I spent the morning accompanying Reuben on a trip with his nursery class to the Auckland Botanic Gardens where they went to get ideas for a vegetable garden they're going to start at school, but before they all got on the coach, Reuben joined in with the morning Playball session. They did a version of mini hockey goal scoring and then a game of stealing treasure from a pirate (aka the coach) and at the end of the session, the coach announced that the medal for best player was going to Reuben. The photo below gives you about a 10% indication of how extremely very pleased he was. He gets to keep the medal for a whole week and it's currently hanging off the post of his bed. When we got back home, he spent about five minutes sitting in a bean bag and stroking it while smiling to himself!
Reuben and Tilly treated us to some very good birthday singing too - there's a clip of this here.
A very happy (belated) 40th!! Great to read your blog, hope you all settle in really quickly - sounds very exciting! Love the Hulmes xxx
