The bold adventurers go camping

A report by Tilly, typed by Hannah.

Yesterday, me, Reuben and Dave got ready to go camping in the Hunua Ranges.  First we had to check our gear and put our sunscreen on.  Then we had to pack everything into our backpacks and get in the car.

After we parked the car, we got out and did some stretches, made sure we had our laces secure so our hiking boots didn't come off and put on our hats.

Then we were off!

We parked near the bottom of the Wairoa Dam and walked to the Repeater Road campground.

It was a long, tiring walk to get to the camp site but we managed it in the end.  On the way we sang some songs - Speed Bonny Boat and The Ants went Marching.

We were relieved when Dave said we'd walked far enough to stop for a snack.

When we got to the camp site, we put up the tent, made sure it was secure, unpacked our stuff and put it into the tent.  While we were waiting for our dinner to cook, we played a game of cards.

Me and Reuben got a bit cold while dinner was cooking, so we snuggled into a sleeping bag.

Finally it was bedtime.  We hadn't brought any stories so we listened to a story off Dave's phone.

For breakfast this morning, we had crispies and cornflakes with chocolate or strawberry milk on, because the real milk would have gone off.

We were sad it was time to go, but we were also happy and excited that we were going to walk a new route on the way back.

When we stopped for a break again, we had a great view of the dam and the reservoir.

We did it!

Thank you for reading my blog post.  I hope you all had a great holiday too.  Bye!

  2. Dear Dave, Hannah and kids,

We met you recently at Taupo in New Zealand, and our kids enjoyed playing wth yours.
Later on, Elsie was talking about Tilly and I typed your first names into google, finding this blog!
Happily, the kids could see some more of your adventures.

I hope that the rest of your trip went well and the Iron Man recovery was easy this time. We are now back in Japan, so NZ feels like ages ago already! Thanks again to your guys for playing together so nicely.

    Best wishes from Tokyo,

    Tara, Elsie and co.
