Tilly finds her dead parents very inspirational

On Tuesday we get home from school as normal. Tilly stays outside and rings the doorbell.

Me: yes?
Tilly: [stage whisper] can we pretend that I'm a visitor?
Me: oh, ok. Er, hello visitor!
T: hello. My parents are dead and I came to stay with my grandma but she's not in so can I come in?
Me: !!!!!

This was only the start of a major 'dead parents' scenario that occupied Tilly for much of the time before tea and even inspired a new piece of music.
Here's how the rest of the scenario played out:

Me: oh, that's very sad, please come in.
T: yes, and my school burnt down too. What's your names?
Me: I'm Hannah Louise Burdekin.  What about you?
T: Tilly Elizabeth Semple Burdekin.
Me: wow, so we've both got Burdekin in our names!
T: yes, maybe we're related.
Me: if it's not too sad for you, could you tell me how your parents died?
T: it's because they were old.
Me: oh, they didn't die in an accident or anything like that?
T: no, just old. So now I've got their money and my own money so I flew to New Zealand to look for a house.
Me: you came to buy a house?
T: yes. I like this one.

Tilly wanders off to play the piano and I soon become aware that she's not just bashing random notes. No, she's telling a story in sound. I grabbed the iPad to video the performance and got most of it here. (Apologies for the shakiness and less than perfect sound quality in places: I was having to fend off Harriet with one hand at times.)

However, Dave and I took the Ubble longevity test at the weekend and have a respective 0.2 and 0.3 per cent risk of dying in the next five years. Tilly may be waiting a while to get her mitts on the inheritance!
