Low-hanging knickers or high-rise skirt? |
It was mother's day here in NZ on Sunday. Last year Reuben and Tilly delivered breakfast in bed to me and then hung around to eat it; this year I got to eat it all and didn't need to share. I also got a fabulous card from Reuben. Here I am resplendent in a gorgeous outfit. The skirt seems very short but it's ok because my knickers come down to my knees, so modesty is preserved! Tilly had also been busy and made me a card, and she'd done all the writing on her own, so we're very impressed.
On the down side, there was no lounging around in bed and relaxing on Sunday, as Dave had a bike race through the Hunua Ranges to get to. Normally he races without a support crew, but this time we decided to go and wave him off, so we were all in the car by 8.30 and heading south to Clevedon. We nearly sabotaged the start when Tilly tripped over a cable and the inflatable arch the riders were about to depart under sagged alarmingly on top of the chap doing the countdown, while I scrabbled around in the grass trying to get the fan plugged in again!

Team Semple Burdekin support crew, shortly before the act of sabotage. Is Tilly plotting her devious move to put the elite group off their start? |
After that excitement, Dave went on to ride the 107km course in 3 hours 8 minutes and came in 66th out of 342 finishers (only 19 minutes behind the 'elite' category winner), so he is rather pleased with himself. Go Dave!
Later in the day Tilly was busy with her pens and stickers and produced this for me (without any help - can you tell). Aside from the very faithful likeness (although quite when I got a hook for a hand we're not sure), it's the writing we liked. Can you tell what it says - admittedly it takes a bit of imagination and insider knowledge as to which letters Tilly prefers to write backwards at the moment, and the fact that capital E gets as many 'twigs' as seem to fit ('Most people only put 3 on Tilly', 'but there's lots of room left on the stick' says Tilly). I'll provide a transcription - I hop(e) uoo (you) hav(e) a hape (happy) muvs (mothers) bey (day). Not bad for a pre-schooler!
