Baby Kiwi

Typical kiwi chick, cute and fluffy but an endangered species

Typical Kiwis, less cute and fluffy but like their avian
counterparts, rather thin on the ground too

Well, there's not much we can do individually to increase the population of the genus Apteryx, but the jungle drums may have informed you that we are doing our bit to raise the population of New Zealand above that of Yorkshire.  We trotted off to the ultrasound department the other day and confirmed that all Hannah's extreme fatigue and the queasy feeling really wasn't the result of a dodgy whelk, but rather a proto human bean.  We showed the pictures to Reuben and Tilly to see if they could work out what it might be.

Too early to tell if there's a Semple nose developing here

But this baby has backbone!
Me: "These are some pictures of something in Hannah's tummy, can you tell what it is?"
Reuben: "A stone?"
Tilly: "A germ?"
Me: "Not quite..."
Reuben: "A baby!  Oh noooo!  Urrgh, gross.  Oh maaan, babies are the worst thing in the world."
Tilly: "If it is a girl we will call it Cinderella and if it is a boy we will call it Daniel."

Oh well, that's a 50% approval rating, which most politicians would be happy with and they've got a while to get used to it.  Tilly is quite excited about being a big sister and despite his initial reaction, Reuben has already started planning who he'll have a sleep over with during the labour.  We're trying to get the concept of gestation through to them - really guys, you've got until May, don't make any plans yet.  At least we've got Christmas, Easter and hopefully Reuben's birthday before the bump comes in for landing.
Good grief, it's an alien!  Good job we didn't show this to the children.
